How can I know when I’m saved?

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.”
Romans 10:9 (NASB)

“How can I know when I’m saved?” Sabine looked up from the Bible with tears in her eyes. The others in the Bible study, which meets deep in the Bavarian Forest of Germany, looked at me and smiled. After only a few weeks of attending, Sabine was hungry for what the Bible said.

I asked, “Sabine, do you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, that He died on the cross and rose from the dead for you?”

“Yes, I really do!” she said, nodding.

“Do you put your complete trust in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the only One who can save you?” I asked.

“Yes,” Sabine replied.

“Sabine, are you sorry for your sins, and do you want to turn from your sins right now and put your faith in Jesus Christ alone?”

“Yes.” She lowered her head.

“Sabine, are you asking Jesus Christ to forgive you, save you, give you eternal life and be the Lord of your life right now?”

“Yes! More than anything else!” she cried.

“He just did!” I excitedly explained. “Jesus Christ just saved you!” Sabine sat very still for a few seconds, looked up and exclaimed, “He did! He really did! Now I understand what you all have been talking about the past weeks! Jesus has saved me!”

Later that night, I said to my wife, “That is what it is all about! I love my job.”

Thank You, Lord, for Sabine’s confession of faith. I pray that You will allow her to share Jesus with members of her family and community. Give many opportunities for missionaries to share Christ with people who live in Germany. Speak through me today, Father. Amen.
