"Sure — get in!"
“You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.”
Psalm 16:11 (NASB)
Working in a new refugee center in Western Europe where sharing the gospel was difficult, my husband and I met D. from Northern Africa. One day, we arranged to take him out with us for a chance to develop a friendship. Upon leaving the center, my husband suddenly stopped the van. Four young refugee men from the camp were walking in the road, blocking our way.
Oh no, I thought, they’ll probably want a ride, and that will distract from our conversation with D. I prayed, “Lord, please make these guys move out of the way so we can do Your work!” At that point, the four young men motioned for me to roll down my window.
“May we ride with you to town?” one of the Middle Eastern young men asked, in broken English. Wanting to say no, I surprised myself when I said, “Sure-get in!”
There was an awkward silence after we started on our way. Then one of the young men asked, “Excuse me, we want to know about Jesus. Do you know about Him? We were not permitted to ask in our country, but we want to know truth.”
My husband and I were so surprised that I asked the man to repeat the question! We had thought that a roadblock was in our way a few moments before, but a miracle occurred when God put those men in our path.
A few months later, these four men became Christians. We never heard from D. again, but we know God is still constructing miracles.
Almighty God, I’m amazed that You even put up with us when we set our minds to a certain course that is not Yours. I pray that the seeds planted in D.’s life will be watered by other servants so that he will come to know You. Use these four Middle Eastern men to share Christ with their countrymen. Keep missionaries sensitive to Your plans. Amen.
