Removing the veil
“But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. … And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord.”
2 Corinthians 3:14-18 (NIV)
She walked the dusty streets of her home country covered by a burqa (BER-kah) that adorned her beautiful face. She was in bondage to a religion that kept her from knowing the love of the Creator.
While fleeing her country with most of her children, she found herself in a land of freedom. She cast aside the veil that covered her face, but there was only one way to remove the veil from her heart. God’s love for her was greater than any government, language barrier or obstacle. With unveiled face, she met the God of the universe.
After months of discipleship, she addressed her need to be baptized. What a party it was as 13 of us gathered together in the home of one of our teammates to baptize her and another believer! A fellow Christian from her country baptized them and prayed in their heart language! What a sight to see, as well as the sound of the Lord praised in a language of this unreached people group, of which very few have heard the good news.
With “unveiled” faces, God’s children are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory from the Lord!
What a joyful celebration in heaven it must be, Lord, when one is delivered from the bondage of darkness into Your kingdom. Please work through Your missionaries today to draw refugees and immigrants in Western Europe to Yourself so the veil that covers their hearts will be forever removed. Amen.
